InterTECH Arrives...
In January 2000, Chris Wetzel (current COO) and a business partner founded InterTECH Security. Their mission was to design, install and maintain the best electronic security and safety systems for their clients. Chris had spent his entire professional life in the electronic security industry starting as a technician’s helper. He worked his way through the operations side of the business then moved into a sales role where he became the highest producing sales manager for an established regional security company. Recognized and respected by security professionals across the country, Chris saw an opportunity to utilize his vast experience to focus on delivering customized electronic security solutions to customers in western Pennsylvania and around the world.
InterTECH Grows...
In three short years, InterTECH grew from a handful of loyal employees with a few hundred thousand in annual sales to a $4 million dollar company with dozens of employees in offices in western Pennsylvania and Maryland. InterTECH grew because customers were convinced InterTECH could design systems that meet their specific needs and InterTECH delivered the final product.Very early on, InterTECH was able to win projects with enterprise customers who recognized and appreciated the talent of the InterTECH team. These projects further enhanced Chris’ and his early team’s reputation in the nationwide electronic security industry.
InterTECH Endures...
In the fall of 2004, InterTECH endured an event that would have put many small young companies under. InterTECH’s headquarters were completely flooded on a Friday afternoon due to a record breaking rainfall in the area. The main administrative floor of the office was under five feet of water.Amazingly, because of the dedication and hard work of many employees, InterTECH was opened for business the following Monday morning in temporary facilities. However, the financial burdens of dealing with a disaster and the distractions away from the core business to get settled in new office space would have a negative effect on the business for most of the next year.
By December 2004, InterTECH had relocated it’s primary offices and consolidated it’s western Pennsylvania operations into a single location in Warrendale PA. InterTECH finished 2004 with record revenues. But Chris and his team had significant concerns about financing future growth and attracting management talent to lead a growing company.
InterTECH Makes a Merge...
InterTECH’s search for financial and management stability ended in November 2005 when it merged with Premier Security, Inc. Premier was a residential/small commercial electronic security provider that also ran a central monitoring station. Premier was owned by Petnuch Partners, LP. The merger brought additional product line diversity to the company and Petnuch Partners made a significant capital infusion into the business. The President of Petnuch Partners, Ron Petnuch, agreed to assume the responsibilities of CEO and President after spending more than 20 years as an attorney and business executive with a large mutual fund complex. Matt Petnuch also joined the company at that time as Vice President of Sales and Marketing bringing more than 25 years of experience in sales management and organizational leadership from Fortune 1000 companies to the organization.A few months prior to the merger, Mike Devinney agreed to join InterTECH as Vice President of Operations. Mike is a 20 year veteran of the Information Technologies industry with expertise in managing IT and Security operations.
The new management team set out immediately to build a foundation on which to build a much larger and stronger company. Throughout 2006, the company began implementing a new accounting system, modifying processes and procedures in all departments, constructing a new monitoring station, and most importantly assigning the right people to roles in the organization.
InterTECH Participates in MLB...
Despite all the changes in 2006, InterTECH continued to flourish. Revenues grew organically by 30% in 2006. There were a number of exciting projects completed and new customers added. The highest profile project was the security integration work coordinated and managed for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
InterTECH Expands Again...
In late 2006, InterTECH also purchased E-Quip Security Solutions in Frederick Maryland and began consolidation of their two offices in Frederick.
InterTECH ended 2006 with revenues exceeding $18.5 million and more than 110 employees. The company moved from 61st to 33rd in a national ranking of security integration companies. In 2004 InterTECH was recognized as one of the best places to work and in 2006 as one of the fastest growing companies in the Pittsburgh area.
InterTECH Looks Ahead...
